6 Habits for a Productive Day

“Focus on being productive

instead of being busy.”

-Tim Ferriss

Hi everyone! Welcome back to Goals & Good Vibes! I realized some people like reading blog content, and some prefer to listen on a podcast.. I decided to now use the same content on my podcast that I write here, if you so choose to listen instead. You will find the link to my podcast on the connect page!

Let’s get started! Today I want to share 6 tips on what I do everyday (or most days) to stay motivated, give my best, get sh** done, and feel accomplished at the end of each day! Some days you may choose to not get out of bed and watch tv all day, but if you have goals and things to do, they aren’t going to get done by themselves. You gotta put the work in most days and take rest when needed. “But there’s not enough time in the day!”, “I’m too busy as it is, I can’t find the time!” That was my mindset too, before I realized I was making it that way.. by procrastinating and putting off small tasks that would only take me less than 10 minutes to complete, or not pressing play on one of my workouts, that were only 30 minutes long. I was lacking motivation, I wasn’t feeling productive or accomplished in my day, I would easily get distracted by the scroll of social media..or end up watching back to back episodes on netflix or lifetime movies. I wouldn’t drink water, I wouldn’t even want to get up to make myself something to eat. Sound familiar? We all have the same 24 hours in our day, and truth is, motivation is something we have to create by changing our routines and our habits. WE decide if we want to make the most of our day, or put everything off and get nowhere closer to our goals. But really we’re just comfortable with the excuses! NOT ME anymore! I hope you’re done with making excuses too, and can push through the hard times, and take small steps to reach your goals every single day. Atleast one thing a day that will bring you closer to reaching your ultimate goals. Don’t give up, or think you can’t do something. It takes time, and the secret to success is found in your daily routine. Here are my ‘6 Habits for a Productive Day!’

1. Start the day off with something that will jumpstart your day in a positive way

I suggest doing the practice, ‘morning pages.’ It is 3 pages of longhand writing and you just write anything that comes to mind until all the pages are filled up. It’s kind of like a brain dump for all your thoughts. Or you could practice meditation, listen to an inpirational podcast, write in a gratitude journal, say some positive affirmations to yourself, read a self-help book, or move your body in some way!

2. Wake up earlier

.

It’s proven that successful people wake up early. I know for me, and i’m far from successful, but when I wake up early I feel more ready to take on the day, and if I keep myself moving I have over half of my to-do list crossed off by noon. So it’s definetly something to consider trying if you’re feeling overwhelmed with what you have to do in the day, and the amount of time you give yourself isn’t adding up to the list of tasks you have. To start, you can try waking up an hour earlier than usual or before your kids wake up. It doesn’t have to be extreme to start, you can work your way to being able to become an early riser.

3. Do a quick non-negotiable 10 minute morning clean up of your space

When I wake up, I immediately go into all the rooms and open the blinds, light some candles, make the bed, and I do a quick little clean up of the house from the night before (if you have kids, you know you’re constantly cleaning up.) If you are a work from home mom like me, you could do a quick clean up of your work space and put some cute decorations up or even add a vision board to your space so it motivates you to work on accomplishing your dreams. Having a clean, organized and happy space that you love can definetly affect your mood and productivity levels.

4. Make a to-do list

I try to set realistic daily goals for myself, and focus on what needs done first. I suggest getting a planner, or a cute notebook. When I write a to-do list it makes me way more intentional with my time, I don’t let myself get side tracked with other things because I know what I need to do that day. Sometimes we forget things, so writing it down the night before, or first thing in the morning will really help things flow alot easier.

5. Limit time on your phone

Since I work from my phone, this one can be hard for me. but i’ve been trying to make sure I use it as intentionally as possible when i’m on it. It’s so easy to just scroll facebook, or endless tik tok videos. Think of all the things you can get done if you put your phone away for a little while and be more aware of how you’re spending your time.

6. Water intake

Our bodies are mostly made up of water, so it only makes sense that if you’re not drinking the amount your body needs, you won’t feel your best. I went years without really making it a priority to drink enough water. I felt sluggish, would get headaches. I was probably dehydrated from only really drinking pepsi and turner’s tea. What has worked very well for me, is getting a time stamped water bottle with motivational messages on them. There are many kinds, my favorite brand is ‘HydroMate.’ It just helps keep me more accountable having the water botle with me with the times.

I hope these ‘6 habits for a Productive Day’ helped you in some way, and if you enjoyed them please share them with a friend who could use help with productivity as well. I’ll talk to you next time! Please email me if there’s anything you would specifically like to read, and i’d be happy to make a post about it. Just has to be goal-oriented, inspirational, or personal growth related. Can’t wait to connect! (:

  1. This is a great post, Jessica. Morning routines are great to start your day right, and when you do that, the rest of the day falls into place much easier. Avoiding phones (or the internet in general) is a must for me, because that’s my biggest distraction. Anyway, thanks for this post!
